A new Rembrandt created with 3D printers

New Rembrand with 3D printers

When you look closely, it looks like a classic Rembrandt painting that maybe you haven’t seen before. You can’t imagine it was actually created with 3D printers by a team of data analysts, developers and art historians.

The painting, called the “Next Rembrandt” was developed by the Amsterdam-based advertising agency J Walter Thompson for its client ING Bank. First they gathered data from all of Rembrandt’s paintings that were then analyzed with a unique software and facial recognition algorithm. Based on this data, new features were generated and a two-dimensional image of a person was created. The final painting was realized after the data was fed to a 3D printer, which released different layers of ink onto a canvas to recreate the painting texture similar to a real Rembrandt.

Watch the video to see how it was done, amazing!

A Swiss artist paints snowy mountains, how typical! But, I love how artist Conrad Jon Godly has captured these beautiful snow-covered mountains in his oil paintings. So real, you want to touch them.

Take a look at the last one, which is actually one artwork called “Holon” and is consisted of 53 smaller oil paintings  (2012, 130×260 cm)

Happy Women’s Day

Happy Women’s Day with a selection from the beautiful work of UK-based artist Amy Judd.

A description for her work: “Amy Judd’s paintings are a collection of sensitive silent moments; some full of whimsical intrigue, others more surreal and seductive. These paintings draw inspiration from the enchanting and imaginative relationship between women and nature found in traditional mythologies and folklores.”

This is Matt Shlian, a paper engineer and artist who makes extraordinary things with paper. His work is often monochromatic, just letting the light and the shadow play with the shapes. These are just a few pieces from his work. Beautiful.

I love these geometric sculptures in nature, by environmental artist Martin Hill.

Hill uses organic materials such as ice, sticks and stones to create his site-specific installations in New Zealand. He then “preserves” these temporary artworks through photographs.

I love these artworks by Leslie Nichols, actually created on her manual typewriter. Nichols began to create her unique textual portraits after being gifted a typewriter and, upon deciding that she wasn’t destined to be a writer, began to use the typewriter to create meaningful drawings.

The selection is from her highly successful series Textual Portraits, where she portrays contemporary women that emerge from classic social texts “just as they emerge into specific contexts of time and place”.
