Just discovered Jeff Rogers, a New York City-based designer and letterer. He has a very distinct style of lettering which I love! He uses a combination of hand-drawn and digital techniques depending on the project, while having a very broad range of styles in his work.

He usually begins with pencil sketches and then, often, moves on to the computer to make vector outlines and add texture and color. In other cases he draws or paints by hand, creating a beautiful retro style reminiscent of vintage painted signage. He also plays around with sculpted letterforms by creating three-dimensional handmade letters.

Also, really amazing work with the GIF animations!

Kenzo perfume ad by Spike Jonze

At the moment, I see this perfume ad everywhere on the internet. And of course it would be, because it is absolutely crazy and fabulous. It features actress and dancer Margaret Qualley performing an unexpectable choreography for the new ad for KenzoWorld. It is directed by Spike Jonze, the director of the absurdly hilarious film “Being John Malkovich”.

But Jonze has done this sort of thing before. Maybe some of you remember the excellent music video he directed for Fatboy Slim called “Weapon of Choice”, back in 2000 (see video below), starring a groovy, tap-dancing Christopher Walken. Very similar to the Kenzo ad and personally, one of my favorite music videos.

Lyfe magnetic planters

Lyfe, gravitating, magnetic planter,

The makers of Flyte – the gravitating light bulbs – have launched a new exciting product: Lyfe! It’s a planter that hovers over a wooden base by magnetic levitation. “A zero-gravity growing system allowing you to cultivate your favorite plants in mid-air” as they describe it. Created by Simon Morris, the project successfully launched in Kickstarter in June and already reached its funding goal. Simply magic!

The transformation of a cargo van into a mobile studio

I love how this filmmaker has creatively transformed an old van into a mobile studio. After deciding to embark on a creative “road show” around the U.S.,  Zach Both bought a van, and started to renovate the interior, taking influences from contemporary architecture. With no prior experience in carpentry, he managed to complete the work by himself and also decided to record everything down. The result was The Vanual, a website where he shares the entire process of converting a van into a camper and living a mobile lifestyle.

Chair made from a Boeing 737 engine

Wow! A chair made from a genuine Boeing 737 engine. This is the 737 Cowling Chair by UK-based furniture design company Fallen Furniture. With a matching aluminum swiveling base and a black-leather upholstered interior, it reminds me of the funky Ball Chair by Eero Saarinen.

Also check out the Fuselage Wall Art, while other products with aircraft parts include: an Airbus A300 window clock, an Airbus A320 escape hatch table, a Boeing 747 wheel table, an exhaust lamp and a R.A.F.  cluster bomb drinks cabinet!

A fascinating project: London-based product designer Oscar Lhermitte has collaborated with design studio Kudu to produce a topographically accurate lunar globe that turns along with the phases of the moon.

MOON has been created at a 1:20 million scale, with data from NASA to reveal all of the moon’s craters, mountains and ridges in precise detail. It also has a ring of LED lights (like the sun) that revolves around the globe, illuminating the correct face of the moon and recreating the lunar phases as seen from Earth.

You can check it out on Kickstarter.

Space tourism posters for NASA

How often can you get a commissioned project by NASA?

These beautiful retro-style posters were designed by Invisible Creature, two award-winning brothers from Seattle. They were commissioned by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory to design a set of “travel posters”, that would be part of a 2016 calendar, and was given as a gift to JPL and NASA staff, as well as engineers, government and university staff.

The designers were not just lucky. Their grandfather was an illustrator and graphic designer at NASA for over 30 years, so this project was obviously a special one.

Some of the limited-edition prints from the designers are sold out, but the designs are available here to download for free. I already downloaded mine!
